A’Ibom NMA refutes report on fresh crisis
Dr Aniekan Peter, Chairman of the Nigerian Medical Association's Akwa Ibom State Chapter, has dismissed media reports that the association is embroiled in a new crisis, calling them misleading.Aggrieved members of the association reportedly circulated an internal audit report, raising concerns that a new crisis had broken out in the association over the alleged misappropriation of funds by the former Prof Emem Abraham-led executive council.
Speaking to reporters in Uyo, the state capital, following a leadership retreat on Saturday, Peter stated that the former chairman has never been indicted for any financial crimes in the association.
"As Chairman of NMA AKS, I, along with my executives seated here, wish to dispel the myth that this report is misleading and did not originate from NMA AKS.

Peter stated that the audit report presented by the internal auditors at the Annual General Meeting was not adopted and discussed by the Congress due to discrepancies, and the document was not signed by the committee's Secretary.
"In response to those observations, the congress, by way of a motion well moved and seconded by the association's past chairmen, decided to invite independent external auditors to audit the association's accounts.
"We are still expecting the documents from the chairman of the audit committee to send to external auditors as adopted by the congress," whereas "at no point in time was Prof Emem Abraham, the immediate past chairman, indicted for any financial crimes in the association."
The chairman, on the other hand, vowed that the findings of the external audit report would be incorporated into the letter, saying, "I always stand for what is right. Whatever the external auditors' findings are, they will be discussed at the congress and made public; nothing will be hidden, and anyone involved will face consequences."
He urged the public to disregard any publications on the NMA by individuals who seek to bring the association's image and noble traditions into disrepute.
