The Lagos police are investigating the petition filed by Tiwa Savage against Davido
The Lagos State Police Command has acknowledged the submission of a petition by Nigerian singer and songwriter, Tiwa Savage, concerning alleged bullying and threats to her life by Grammy nominee, David Adeleke, widely known as Davido.
Benjamin Hundeyin, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that an investigation has been initiated into the allegations.
He stated, “I can confirm to you that we have received the petition and investigation has commenced.”
Savage, as detailed in the circulated petition, accused Davido of using disrespectful language in response to a post that included herself and the singer’s baby mama, Sophia Momodu, on Instagram.
The singer detailed her disappointment at Davido's threats, reminding him of her unwavering support during challenging times, particularly when he lost his son, Ifeanyi.
Following this, she asserted that she received calls from mutual acquaintances questioning her actions that might have upset Davido, along with inquiries about her relationship with Sophia.
A portion of the petition stated, “On the 23rd of December, I posted a story on Instagram featuring myself and Sophia Momodu, using the Instagram Story feature that lasts for twenty-four hours. Subsequently, Mr. David Adeleke sent messages to my manager, who is also part of his management team, instructing me not to worry or say anything to him. He accused me of taunting him and used disrespectful, malicious, and derogatory language towards me.”
“I replied to Mr. David Adeleke's message, advising him not to contact me, particularly considering my past support for him and his daughter, Imade, especially during the loss of his son. Subsequently, the events of that day triggered numerous calls and messages from shared acquaintances, inquiring about my actions that might have upset Mr. David Adeleke. He seemed disturbed by my decision to maintain a relationship with Imade's mother, Sophia Momodu, with whom he has conflicts. This portrayal of the incident falsely presents me as the instigator.”
Savage further asserted that Davido instructed their shared contacts to caution her, warning her to be cautious in Lagos as she would face consequences.
“He has additionally instructed our mutual connections to caution me, stating he intends to harm me in Lagos. This is starting to feel like a form of both online and offline harassment, affecting not only me but also members of my team. Mr. David Adeleke's actions are unethical and can be perceived as a direct threat to my rights to life, privacy, and personal dignity,” she remarked.
A social media stir arose on Saturday, January 6, 2024, when both singers unfollowed each other on Instagram.
Davido and Savage have historically maintained a friendly relationship, with their children, Imade Adeleke and Jamil Balogun, following in their parents’ footsteps.
The two youngsters shared the same educational institution and were frequently observed enjoying each other's company.
Nevertheless, various speculations have arisen regarding the reasons behind both prominent artists choosing to unfollow each other. Some fans speculate that this decision might be linked to the growing friendship between Savage and Sophia.
